MaxiVista alternative for extending desktop onto another laptop's display? [closed]

Possible Duplicate:
Can I use my laptop as a second monitor for my desk computer?

Am I wrong when I say that apart from MaxiVista, there is currently no way to do this? Or perhaps there is some combination of using VNC with something else to achieve this? If there is no way, does anybody know if there are any open source projects working on this problem? Thanks!
